Biography

I paint portraits and landscapes in oil or acrylic.

I am often inspired emotionally by a beautiful or dramatic landscape and long to capture that moment in paint.  A painting can never completely represent such as the wind, a scent, or a sound, but I try to add something else; something personal; my feelings.  I design bold compositions, exaggerate hues and celebrate the beauty of subtle colour juxtapositions.  I enjoy the shape of an expressive brush mark or the luscious texture of the paint.

My paintings remind me of the live scene, but also have a life of their own.

My portraits, with their intense colours, clearly marked shapes and bold contrasts are representational, but slightly stylized

I am interested in people; their personalities and the way in which these affect their appearance, stance and movements.  In the fascinating exercise of studying faces, I aim to capture the likeness, character and situation of my subject.

Animal portraits are also a fascinating study.

My work can be bought online and in the Gallery of Wychwood Art, The Town Hall, Market Place, Deddington, Oxon. OX15 0SE
